who we are

People of all ages, races, gender, and social-economic groups call our confidential service, trusting that we'll always be here.

Overnight Volunteers Keep Our Phone Lines Awake

When you have anxiety or depression that gets worse overnight, or you suffer from insomnia, the last thing you want to do is wake a loved one or a friend to talk to them.

The Distress Centre of Ottawa & Region is 24/7...meaning we have people who are here overnights from the time the sun goes down until the sun rises again the next day.

We are looking for individuals who are night owls!  The ones who love staying up late, the ones who are more awake at 2:00am than 2:00pm, the ones who want to be there for those calling us when they can't sleep.

Your training remains the same as every other volunteer who graces our phone lines.  You will complete 60 hours of training including the Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) workshop, but the only difference is, your shifts are scheduled solely on overnights.  We have a flexible schedule and will work with you to ensure that we are placing you on the overnights that suit both party's needs.

If this program is of interest to you, please fill out our online application and indicate that you are wanting to be a part of the NightOwl Volunteer Team!
