Equity, Diversity and Inclusivity

The Distress Centre of Ottawa and Region (DCOR) affirms its commitment to equity, diversity and inclusivity through proactive approaches in thinking about impact-effects of our policies and practices on diverse groups.

In 2024-2025, our EDI Committee completed the review of its Terms of Reference to ensure that its goals and initiatives continued to be relevant within the Distress Centre agenda.

Our Policy Review Working Group continued to review and implement changes to pertinent policies and procedures.  During the past year, we also took a closer look at the community programs and services which were available in our referral database, particularly for the Black community and New Canadians.

The EDI will continue their efforts in this area during the next fiscal year.

Looking Ahead

Looking Ahead

2025-26 will see the implementation of a new two-year strategic plan focused on solidifying DCOR’s strategic pillars, including financial stability, responder experience, and community engagement.

We will also be saying goodbye to Charles Laframboise, who as Executive Director has guided DCOR for 25 years. We will welcome a new Executive Director in the fall of 2025.

We will also be expanding our community outreach including launching new external training programs.

Finally we will continue to explore our ability to recruit, train and support volunteers working remotely, while maintaining our hybrid volunteer capacity.
