Our work in the community
Our work in the community is focused on supporting initiatives that provide for a safer community.
The Distress Centre of Ottawa and Region prides itself on supporting our community. We respond to crises both on and off the lines.
From local awareness fairs to corporate training and everything in between, we want to ensure our mission of establishing a community where individuals in need are supported and empowered to meet life’s needs.
This year alone we trained over 200 community members in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training and safe Talk, contributing to a safer community.
We use our knowledge of what is happening in our community to bolster training and support, which includes offering specialized training to over 200 volunteers.
We also participated in a number of community events, including United Way Fundraising fairs hosted by multiple organizations, The WOW festival sponsored by CAPSA, Cold Play Ottawa Plunge for Mental Health, Bluesfest 9-8-8 Suicide Hotline communication, World Suicide Prevention day, hosted by the City of Ottawa, The Ottawa Young Constructions Leaders Golf Tournament, Sam Laprades An Hour To Give, and more.
